Iraqi election results approved

Iraqi Federal Court has approved the results of 12 May’s parliamentary elections.

Following allegations of widespread fraud, several parties raised objections to the announced results of parliamentary elections held in Iraq on May 12.

On June 6, Iraqi Parliament decided for the recount of votes by hand and the decision was approved by the Iraqi Federal Court on June 21.

The manual recount of votes began on July 4 and ended on August 6.

After the approval of the election results by the Federal Court of Iraq, Iraqi President Fuad Masum should assign the winning party to form a government within 15 days.

According to the Iraqi Constitution, the new government must be formed in 90 days after the court’s approval of the results.
