Swedish MEP Björk expresses support for Güven and her demand

MEP Malin Björk of the Swedish Left Party has spoken out in favor of ending the isolation of Abdullah Öcalan and states her support for Leyla Güven's demands.

Malin Björk, Swedish politician of the Vänsterpartiet (Left Party) and Member of the European Parliament, where she is a member of the Confederal Group of the European United Left / Nordic Green Left, has spoken out in favor of ending Abdullah Öcalan's conditions of isolation.

In a video message, the Swedish parliamentarian expresses her solidarity with the Kurdish politician Leyla Güven, who has been on a hunger strike in Amed 7 (Diyarbakir) prison since November and says she supports her demands.

"Leyla Güven has been on a hunger strike for over 70 days with the demand for an end to the isolation of the imprisoned Ocalan, a must for peace talks and negotiations to be resumed,. It is a hunger strike for democracy, freedom and human rights. The oppression and attacks against the Kurds must be stopped. I support the fight of Leyla Güven."

47-year-old politician Malin Björk has been a Member of the European Parliament since 2014, serving on the Committee on Civil Liberties, Justice and Home Affairs, the Committee on Women's Rights and Gender Equality and the Delegation for Relations with India. At the end of the year, she raised serious allegations against the Turkish government in the European Parliament and called on the EU to withdraw from the refugee negotiations that were concluded with Turkey. Björk said: "It is a shame and absolutely unacceptable for a country led by an authoritarian leader to oppress the Kurds and put opponents in jail to serve as the European Union's frontier guard."
