The AKP-MHP government, which has taken no precautions to prevent the coronavirus from spreading in prisons continues its practices thus endangering the lives of prisoners.
Mahmut Bağrıyanık, who was detained in Denizli Kocabaş T-Type Closed Prison for 4 years serving a sentence of 22 years for "being a member of an illegal organisation" has told his wife Remziye Bağırıyanık what they experienced in the prison.
Bağrıyanık told his wife on their weekly conversation that there are 17 people in a ward which can hold 6 because the prison administration unified the two political prisoners wards.
Bağırıyanık stated that they had to sleep 2 or 3 people in each bed.
Stating that they were not given masks and gloves, Bağırıyanık added: "Because we are so crowded in the ward now, we sometimes have trouble breathing. Some of our friends complained of severe sore throat and flu last week. When they went to the doctor, they were given a medicine and sent back to the ward. That's why we don't go to the doctor anymore. Our demands are not met. They only gave us a small hand disinfection gel. We try to protect ourselves from diseases with our limited possibilities."
Bağrıyanık also said that they sent a petition to the prison administration demanding to move to a larger ward, but that they received no answer.
