Ömer Öcalan: Abdullah Öcalan said we are living a historic process

DEM Party MP Ömer Öcalan said that in his meeting with Abdullah Öcalan on 23 October, the Kurdish people’s leader told him: "We have a historic process ahead of us; we can transform this historic process into an honorable peace in a positive sense."

Peoples' Equality and Democracy Party (DEM Party) Urfa (Riha) MP Ömer Öcalan disclosed some details of his meeting with Abdullah Öcalan in Imralı on 23 October and his proposals for the solution to the Kurdish issue in the Parliament.

Ömer Öcalan said that the Syrian war had entered a new phase and protested the invasion attacks.

He then conveyed some details of his meeting with Öcalan for the first time. Ömer Öcalan said that the Kurdish people’s leader evaluated Kurdish-Turkish relations from Sultan Sencer, Melikşah, İdris-i Bitlisî, Yavuz Selim, Abdulhamid Khan to Mustafa Kemal. He said: "He evaluated the Kurdish-Turkish alliances, how the Kurds and Turks came to this stage together. He also clearly evaluated the alliances, relations and the problems experienced from time to time. He had solution suggestions. In addition to this, he said that we can solve this problem through dialogue."

'His morale was high and he showed determination'

Ömer Öcalan said that during the meeting, the Kurdish people’s leader said: "We could have actually solved this problem in 2000. In 1999, I said I would serve the solution to the Kurdish-Turkish issue. I said it in 2000, and I am saying it now. But they took the matter to a different level. They said I was saying this to save myself. We are still at this point. This is the issue that is still being discussed in parliament. The year is 2024. There is still war, there is still no solution, there is still conflict."

The Urfa MP said that Öcalan clearly conveyed to him that his morale was good, and he was strong and in control of the agenda. He added that he would also take the initiative to solve the problems, and he stressed that when he talks about the terms and conditions in the message we gave, he is not putting these terms and conditions for himself. He said he made evaluations regarding the preparation of an environment for a solution. The Urfa MP said that Öcalan told him: "The ruling media also tried to distort this meeting from their own perspective, but the issue is serious. We have a historical process ahead of us; we can transform this historical process into a great, honorable peace in a positive sense; no one wants to think beyond that anyway."

'We talked about the Middle East'

Ömer Öcalan added: "Of course, Gaza was discussed, the Middle East was discussed, evaluations were made regarding Israel; evaluations were made regarding the Kurds in Iraq, the Kurds in Syria and the Kurds in Iran. His suggestions were the most reasonable suggestions. His solutions were the most reasonable solutions. Will the Turkish government or Turkish authorities, Turkish state authorities come to this or not? Will they prepare this ground or not? The issue is a bit knotted here. Of course, he also mentioned Rojava. He is following the developments in Syria closely. He is dominant on the agenda with the few television channels he follows."

Ömer Öcalan added: "Armenians were mentioned, Assyrians were mentioned, Yazidis were mentioned. In fact, the entire Middle East was mentioned. It was an approach that treated differences as richness. Look, fifty days have passed since 23 October. Four and a half years had passed since the previous visit. All the people of Turkey should know that these issues cannot be solved y imposing isolation or some other liquidation policies. There have already been great losses, people are still losing their lives in this region."

Ömer Öcalan warned that the Kurds had begun to lose hope that their problems could be solved with democratic means and methods, and said: "In fact, while we want to believe on the one hand, we look at the reality, and we look at Rojava. Bombs are falling every day. Assassinations are being carried out, and instead of increasing the belief in a solution, this belief is gradually declining. As a party, we want to play a role in the democracy of this country, in the future of this country. Everyone is ready. There are also some speculations being made through the media. We are doing politics within democratic politics, within the constitutional framework. The organization also announced that it would support Mr. Öcalan’s decisions and statements to the end. However, some are making different statements to muddy the atmosphere."
