Members of the Human Rights Association (IHD) Istanbul Branch Prison Commission carried out their weekly F-Session action in which they draw attention to the condition of ill prisoners through the Commission social media account as actions on the streets cannot be organised because of the coronavirus epidemic.
This week the action drew attention to the situation of Tekin Dönmez, a seriously ill prisoner.
In a statement made by commission member Meral Nergis Şahin, it was underlined that adequate measures against the epidemic are not taken in prisons and that prisoners are facing great risks.
Stating that the discriminatory law execution approved by parliament was against the principle of equality and the Constitution, Şahin added: "Prisoners have in fact been sentenced to death."
Şahin noted that Tekin Dönmez repeatedly attempted suicide due to his illnesses.
Reminding that Dönmez, who suffered from bipolar disorder and schizophrenia, is also 70 percent disabled, Şahin reiterated the IHD demand to release ill prisoners.
