Human Rights Association (IHD) Istanbul Branch President Gülseren Yoleri read the statement which was broadcast live on social media accounts.
Zeki Altunbaş was lost in state custody on 18 April 1981, in the wake of the 12 September 1980 military coup.
Zek had been a student at Ankara University and struggled for human rights. The state insists that Zeki killed himself in state custody, allegedly by jumping out the tiny toilet window on the ferryboat on which he was being transported while handcuffed.
Yoleri stated that Tahsin Altunbaş, Zeki's father went to look for his son for 11 years. He lost his life in a traffic accident in 1992 while he was coming back from yet another visit to the morgue.
