Tensions continue in Kazerun city of Iran

Popular protests continue in Iran’s Kazerun city for the fourth day.

Tensions continue between Iranian regime forces and the people of Kazerun city who are protesting against the

regime’s economic policies. On the first day of the protests, regime forces killed three civilians, wounded 84 and detained dozens of others.

Protests continued across the city yesterday. Images on social media show continued clashes between the people and regime forces.

A video footage shows a regime soldier stationed on Kazerun Judicial Headquarters raining bullets on the people.

In 2017’s August, a parliamentarian from Shiraz city proposed the fracture of “Kuhmerdan Nurd” and “Chinar Shîcan” towns from Kazerun, and unification of the towns as a city named “Kiwe Chinar”. The parliament speaker promised to accept this proposal, vowing that these towns would be divided from Kazerun.

Residents of Kazerun responded to this development, stating that in such a case their living conditions would worsen and they wouldn’t get enough benefit from the budget.

The mentioned two towns house several historical sites, which is one of the reasons Kazerun people do not want such a separation.
