The Association of Contemporary Lawyers (ÇHD) announced that of the four lawyers who have been on hunger strike in prison, two have gone on death fast.
Eight lawyers from the Association of Contemporary Lawyers (ÇHD), including the president of the association, are jailed in Turkey. Four of the lawyers have been on hunger strike for a few months demanding justice. Ebru Timtik has been fasting for over 90 days and Aytaç Ünsal, Oya Aslan and Barkın Timtik for over 60 days.
ÇHD released a statement today, the Lawyers Day in Turkey, which included the following; “The government does not abstain from adding new links to the chain of injustice, let alone meeting their demands. A so-called law on execution of sentences is being discussed at the moment. Our friends and thousands of political prisoners are excluded from this and they are kind of left to die in prisons that have no protective mechanism against coronavirus. At this stage, our colleagues Ebru Timtik and Aytaç Ünsal have decided to turn their hunger strike to death fast. We are worried but all the more, we are angrier.”
