The KDP, the ruling party in southern Kurdistan (northern Iraq), continues to prevent the Yazidi people from returning to their homeland, Shengal (Sinjar), which was subject to a genocidal aggression by ISIS in August 2014.

Thousands of Yazidis who escaped from the massacre and have been residing in refugee camps in South Kurdistan since, are prevented by the KDP from returning to their homeland. Despite the joint efforts of the Turkish state and the KDP to prevent the safe return of Shengal people, members of the ancient Yazidi community continue to return home.

The Shengal Autonomous Administration announced that they were ready to welcome those wishing to return.

According to Êzidxan Asayish (Yazidi security forces) data, 25 more families have returned to Shengal in the last week. The number of families who have returned to Shengal in the last two years has thus reached 4,770.
