HPG: 17 soldiers were killed in guerrilla areas

The guerrilla armies HPG and YJA Star continue the resistance against the Turkish invasion in Southern Kurdistan. In the latest actions against occupation forces, 17 soldiers were killed and the body of a soldier was seized by the guerrillas.

 

In its daily statement about the ongoing war in the guerrilla-held Medya Defense Zones in southern Kurdistan (northern Iraq), the press centre of the People's Defence Forces (HPG) reported that guerrillas continue to resist the Turkish invasion with mobile units and in underground tunnels.

 

According to the statement, several explosive charges as well as a military position have been destroyed, at least 17 members of the occupation forces have been killed and three others injured in twelve different actions by the guerrillas.

In the Zap region, a soldier was fatally shot in a guerrilla action with heavy weapons on Thursday in the resistance area of Çemço. In Saca, the guerrillas seized several explosive charges in the past 48 hours, which were set to be attached to the Şehîd Xursî tunnel facility. A large part of them was detonated by guerrillas in a controlled manner.

At the Girê FM massif in Metîna, guerrillas targeted a military unit yesterday while making such explosive charges, killing at least one soldier. Two soldiers who had moved up in support were also targeted and shot at close range. One soldier's body was seized, and the guerrillas recovered his equipment and a mobile phone. The bodies of the other two occupiers killed are also in an area controlled by the guerrillas.

The Turkish army responded to these actions with massive air strikes. According to HPG, the bombardment of Girê FM by fighter jets started late on Thursday evening and continued until Friday morning. The massif was attacked from the air a total of 19 times, it said.

YJA STAR ACTIONS IN XAKURKE

In Xakurke, mobile teams of the Free Women's Troops (YJA Star) carried out a spectacular series of sabotage actions against Turkish occupiers on Wednesday. The target of the total of five actions were military units in the area between Girê Şehîd Axîn and Şehîd Berîtan. According to the HPG, at least ten soldiers were killed and three others were injured. The Turkish army did not manage to evacuate the casualties on the ground. Instead, transport helicopters were used. On Thursday, mobile guerrilla teams struck the Turkish forces at Girê Şehîd Axîn again and destroyed a position. Three soldiers inside were killed.

MASSIVE ATTACKS ON GUERRILLA AREAS

The HPG also reported continued air and ground attacks by the Turkish army in the guerrilla areas. According to the statement, the occupying forces used chemical weapons and banned bombs in 16 operations against guerrilla positions.

The invading army carried out 53 air attacks, 25 of them with fighter jets. Apart from the mentioned attacks on Girê FM, HPG reported six attacks on Gundê Yekmalê and Gundê Şiyê in Gare; Golka in Metîna and Sinînê in Xakurke, and 28 with attack helicopters. In addition, there were dozens of attacks with tanks, howitzers and mortars. In the resistance area of Karker, the Turkish army continues to try to demolish guerrilla positions with construction machinery.
