Kurdish youth celebrate Newroz in London

In the celebration held in the Democratic Kurdish Society Centre Wednesday evening, Ali Poyraz, Nahide Zengin and Mehmet Sait Yilmaz , who have been on a hunger strike since March 14, gave speeches.

The youth Newroz held before the grand Newroz celebration in London turned into a demonstration in solidarity with the hunger strikes this year.

In the celebration held in the Democratic Kurdish Society Centre Wednesday evening, Ali Poyraz, Nahide Zengin and Mehmet Sait Yilmaz , who have been on a hunger strike since March 14, gave speeches.

The hunger strikers pointed out that the responsibility to lead lies with women and the youth in this process and called on all the people to play their role under this lead.

Hunger strikers also said those who remain silent in this process can never be true comrades and that they will always be liable in the face of history.

Photographs of Kurdish People’s Leader Abdullah Ocalan and Leyla Guven as well as Zulkuf Gezen, who carried out a sacrifice action, were put up in the hall.

ROAD CLOSED FOR TRAFFIC

Following the speeches and halays in the celebration, the youth lit a bonfire in the center’s yard.

The youth danced the halay around the fire, and following a fireworks display, held a midnight march to Haringey.

During the march, which took over 2 hours, the road crossing in Manor House was closed for traffic.

When the rows of vehicles became too long, the police arrived at location. Tension rose between the police trying to intervene and the youth, and the youth continued with the protest for a long time.

The march later continued back to the Kurdish Society Centre.
