Negligence in dealing with coronavirus in Van

The Turkish state's failure to take adequate measures against the coronavirus epidemic, is provoking reactions in Van. Here refugees are not sufficiently taken care of, although the danger of coronavirus is high in the region.

Dozens of refugees arrive in Van every day through Iran, however after dozens of people died in Iran of coronavirus, the Turkish state has finally closed the border.

But closing the borders, clearly is a palliative measures as refugees - desperate to get out of Iran - are continuing to pour into Van.

Once detected they are taken under medical control to be checked for coronavirus. Field hospitals were established in Van and Ağrı to serve this purpose, although it appears that they are not adequately equipped.

The health team brought in for the coronavirus screening in the area where tens of refugees are kept in the Gürpınar district of Van, left the area without a health screening due to the unfavorable health conditions.

In the minutes prepared by the medical team recorded why they decided to leave without having performed the screening: "There is no physical conditions and equipment is insufficient for health screening and providing a qualified health service. Necessary isolation conditions are not available to enable medical teams to detect the new types of coronavirus. For these reasons, we have not carried out the screen and decided to leave the facility."
