People of Kobanê celebrate the anniversary of liberation

People of Kobanê celebrated the 2nd year anniversary of their liberation and 3rd year anniversary of Kobanê Democratic Autonomous Administration’s establishment.

People of Kobanê came together at the Freedom Square to celebrate the 2nd year anniversary of their freedom and 3rd year anniversary of Kobanê Democratic Autonomous Administration’s establishment.

Thousands of civilians, YPG and YPJ fighters that have participated in the war of Kobanê, PYD Co-chairs Asya Abdullah and Saleh Muslim, Northern Syria Democratic Federalism Organization Co-president Ferhat Derik, YPJ Spokeswoman Nesrîn Abdullah, Autonomous Administration Co-president Heyfo Erebo and his assistants, in addition to a delegation from Kobanê Canton Autonomous Administration, Cizire Canton Autonomous Administration, Efrîn Canton Autonomous Administration, Manbij Civilian Assembly Administration, Girê Spî, Silûk and Shengal Regional Administration and Manbij Military Council Command.

The area was covered with signs that read “Kobanê is Greater than You”, “Autonomous Administration is a Project of Coexistence” and “Democratic Federation is the Political Representation of All Social Constituents”, as well as posters of Kurdish People’s Leader Abdullah Öcalan and martyrs of the freedom movement.

'RESISTANCE OF HUMANITY'

The celebration began with the Ey Reqib anthem and slogans “Long Live Leader Apo.” Kobanê Canton YPJ commander Fîdan Kobanê stated that their resistance transformed the history of the Middle East, and that the ideas of Kobanê enlighten the region. Kobanê said “The attacks of Turkey and ISIS aimed to destroy Kobanê which was defended with our ideas and the mobilization in four parts of Kurdistan. Kobanê Resistance does not belong to one single nation. This resistance brought together different peoples and became the resistance of humanity.”

YPJ Commander pointed out that history has been rewritten in Kobanê and emphasized the importance of YPJ’s role in Kobanê Resistance. She said “Nobody will view Kurdish women as concubines anymore, we have paid the price of our freedom with hundreds of martyrs. They may not be with us anymore but their spirit, mentality and bravery remain. We will never forget them and always follow in their footsteps. We will follow the cause of fighters such as Arin Mirkan who sacrificed themselves in order to protect their people and land.”

'RESISTANCE UNIFIED IN KURDISTAN'

YPG General Command member Mehmûd Berxwedan emphasised that the resistance of the fighters still lives in the streets of Kobanê, where every stone and piece of land witnessed resistance. Berxwedan drew attention to the resistance of the Northern Kurdistan people during the war and said this spirit of mobilization unified the resistance in Kurdistan.

'MILITARY GAINS HAVE IMPACTED THE POLITICAL ARENA'

PYD Co-chair Saleh Muslim and Kobanê Canton Co-president Enver Muslim celebrated the declaration of democratic autonomy and emphasized that military gains have impacted the political arena, on which the Northern Syria Democratic Federal project rose.
