24 arrested in Van, Ardahan and Nusaybin

17 more people, including 8 children, have been formally arrested following a court hearing in Van, one of the cities where major protests were held against the attacks of ISIS on Kobanê. Five other people were arrested in Ardahan and two in Nusaybin district of Mardin.

VAN

24 people, who had been detained in the incidents that broke out following protest demonstrations against the attacks on Kobanê in Van, have been referred to the Van Courthouse following official procedures at police station.

Two of the detainees were released after bearing testimony to the prosecutor while 5 out of 22 who were sent to the court on demand to be arrested were subjected to supervised release. 17 others including 8 children have on the other hand been arrested and sent to Van M and F type prisons for allegedly “being member of an organisation”, “damaging public property” and “resisting to police”.

With these latest arrests, the number of those arrested out of the 178 detained in Van has reached 78, including 13 children.

ARDAHAN

5 people who had been detained following a press conference in Ardahan in protest against the attacks on Kobanê were sent to the court following official procedures at police station and the prosecution’s office. Burhan Dursun, Necati Doğan, Taner Keleş, Serkan Balcı, Burhan Uymaz, who were sent to the court in demand of being arrested, have been formally arrested by the court on the grounds of “spreading propaganda for an organisation” and sent to Ardahan prison.

NUSAYBİN

Two people in Nusaybin district of Mardin were arrested on the grounds of making an announcement with a car of the Party of Democratic regions calling on the people to “take down the shutters” during protests in solidarity with the Kobanê resistance.

Tenzile Irmak and Mesut Aslan who were detained by plain-clothes policemen have been formally arrested by a court and sent to Mardin E type prison.
