24 million citizens to go the polls in Iraq

The vote on Saturday to elect the new Parliament.

On Saturday over 24 million citizens in Iraq are called to the polls, to renew the central Parliament.

A total of 6904 female and male candidates will run to fill the 329 seats in the Baghdad Parliament.

The Iraq Independent Supreme Election Commission said in a written statement that all preparations have been made and all precautions have been taken for the people to vote in a peaceful environment.

The Commission published the following information:

A total of 8,959 voting centers and 55,232 voting spots have been opened to give the opportunity to cast their vote to the 24 million 349 thousand 357 people who are entitled to it.

Four thousand journalists, both from Iraqi and from international media, have been accredited to follow the elections.

A total of 74 thousand 646 observers have been appointed by Iraq Independent Supreme Electoral Commission to watch over the elections, while 133 thousand 415 people were appointed by parties to stay at the polling stations.

A total of 963 international observers, 329 of them being journalists, are to follow elections on field.
