25 November border programme announced

The programme for the 25 November women’s solidarity day at the Kobanê border has been announced.

Democratic Free Women’s Movement (DÖKH) is organising various activities around the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women on 25 November. As the resistance of the YPJ in Kobanê has highlighted the role of Kurdish women, the DÖKH has announced a programme of activities to take place in Urfa city and in its districts in addition to events at the border.

Hande Kaya from the Democratic Free Women’s Movement (DÖKH) announced the programme for 25 November at a press conference on Wednesday in Halfeti. She said the programme would begin on 23 November with a march in Siverek, the hometown of Kader Ortakaya, who was shot dead by Turkish soldiers on the border recently. Components of the DÖKH will organise various activities between 19 and 25 November in solidarity with the women of Sinjar and Kobanê.

Starting in Halfeti, ending at the border

Hande Kaya said that there would be a march in Siverek on 23 November to commemorate Kader Ortakaya and that a photograph exhibition and films would take place in Urfa city. There will also be a film show in Bozova on 23 and 24 November and a programme at the tent cities in Viranşehir and Suruç. “On 25 November women from various cities and countries will assemble in the village of Dewşen and march to the village of Mehser at noon”, she added.
