9 October marked in Germany, Switzerland and Italy

Thousands of Kurds living in Europe staged marches and demos to mark the 15th anniversary of the 9 October conspiracy which led Kurdish leader Abdullah Öcalan being forced to leave Syria in 1998. Kurds once again asked freedom for the Kurdish leader and an end to the policies of denial and war against the Kurdish people.

Kurds in Germany and their friends joined the mass marches and rallies organized by the Federation of Kurdish Unions in Germany (YEK-KOM) in many cities including Berlin, Hannover, Stuttgart, Bremen, Mannheim and Darmstadt.

The Berlin demo against the 9 October conspiracy was joined with the “We demand justice” protest of Kurdish women who stage protest in Berlin every Wednesday to demand justice for three Kurdish politicians, Sakine Cansız, a co-founder of the Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK), Fidan Doğan, representative of the Kurdistan National Congress (KNK) in Paris, and Leyla Şaylemez, member of the Kurdish youth movement, who were executed in Paris on 9 January 2013. The demo outside the French Consulate was also joined by Sakine Cansız's brother Haydar Cansız, Leyla Şaylemez's father Cumali Şaylemez and her sister Yasemin Şaylemez.

Another protest demo against the conspiracy was staged by the Assembly of Kurdish Women in Berlin who organized vigil to condemn the conspiracy and to demand justice for three Kurdish women executed in Paris.

The demo in Stuttgart was also joined with the weekly “We demand justice” protest of Kurdish women who gather outside the French Consulate every Wednesday for Sakine, Fidan and Leyla. The rally was organized by the Initiative of Kurdish Women in Stuttgart and Mesopotamia Cultural Center. Women joining the protest were wore black and tied their mouths with black clothes.

One other protest against the international conspiracy took place in the Swiss city of Zurich where a large number of women staged sit-in and issued a press release voicing their determination to continue struggle until the liberation of Kurdish people's leader Abdullah Öcalan.

Kurds in the city of Düsseldorf will stage a march on 12 October to mark the 9 October conspiracy. The march will begin from the Düsseldorf Hauptbahnof at 2 pm.

Kurds in the Italian capital Rome also staged a demo in front of the parliament to protest the conspiracy against the leader of the PKK (Kurdistan Workers' Party). Police wanted to collect the PKK flags they were carrying, which they strongly reacted to, saying that they cannot accept an intervention in their flag. They chanted slogans in favor of the PKK leader and condemned the international powers involved in the conspiracy.
