Actions for Leyla Güven in Berlin and London

DTK co-chair and HDP Hakkari MP Leyla Güven has been on hunger strike for 77 days.

In Berlin and London actions were organised to support Leyla Güven’s action and her demand to end the isolation regime imposed on Kurdish people’s leader Abdullah Öcalan.

Berlin

In Berlin, activists are coming up with a number of protests and actions to draw attention to Leyla Güven's ongoing resistance, urging everyone to act before her health goes any worse.

DESTDAN women’council organised an action Brandenburger Tor Parizer Platz.

Activists were wearing T-shirts with the portrait of Leyla Güven and opened green, yellow and red flags.

The activists called for a new demonstration tomorrow at the same time, at 2 pm.

London

A demonstration took place in front of the British parliament. The protest was organised by Roj Women's Council in London.

The attitude of the British Parliament was condemned in the protest and activists underlined their support for the hunger strikes initiated by Leyla Güven.

Activists said that Leyla’s demands are their demands, reminding that Abdullah Öcalan has been kept in isolation for 20 years.

Prime Minister Theresa May was condemned for her silence and the British parliament was urged to take action.

Irish revolutionary Bobby Sands [who died in Long Kesh, after 66 days on hunger strike in 1981] was commemorated.

Poster saying “Yesterday Bobby Sands today Leyla Güven” were carried by activists.

Likewise photos of Ilhan Sis, the Kurdish activist on hunger strike in Wales, were also carried by activists.

The demonstration urged for immediate action for Leyla Güven and all political prisoners.
