Area reserved for Bahçeli Memorial Forest begins to be cordoned off

Despite the reaction of political parties and non-governmental organizations in Diyarbakir, the area reserved for the "Bahçeli Memorial Forest" has started to be cordoned off.

Work has begun to create a commemorative forest named after MHP chairman Devlet Bahçeli on Kırklar Mountain in Diyarbakır's Sur district.

Excavations for the planting of saplings, which started earlier this week, continue. In addition, poles were started to be erected to cordon off the area, covering a large area with fences. The concrete columns erected for the "State Garden Memorial Forest" sign are about to be completed.

Protests by civil society organisations and parties

Civil society, democratic mass organizations and political parties in the city oppose the creation of a forest in tribute to the right-wing nationalist politician, Bahçeli, known – among other things – for being the founder of the fascist organisation Grey Wolves. NGO and party representatives protested the decision holding various activities since the decision came to the fore.
