Speaking at a press conference at the Union of Journalists of Rize, Chairman of Tek Gıda-İş Union, Mustafa Türkel, said the union would go on a general strike across the country on 22 April 2013. Türkel said the strike will begin with the participation of unionists from 58 workplaces of Çaykur (tea manufacturing company) in early morning of 22 April.

Türkel said that the union has decided on the strike to protest against the conditions of Çaykur workers who have been aggrieved for the last five years about their wages and denied the right to collective bargaining.
