Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) Leader Masoud Barzani has resigned as the president of Southern Kurdistan region but is still not through with the crisis in Kirkuk and disputable areas.
Barzani has met with a delegation from the Iraqi Turkmen Front (ITC) that poses an obstacle to the election of a governor for Kirkuk and did not attend the meeting held by Iraqi President Fuad Masum. No statement was made concerning the context of the meeting.
Reports on KDP media state that the meeting rather handled the upcoming elections in Iraq and witnessed a discussion on the ethnic and faith communities in Kirkuk.
People of Southern Kurdistan do not approve the current situation in Kirkuk, not talks with those who pose an obstacle to the election of a governor.
The Iraqi Turkmen Front founded by Turkish intelligence MİT is carrying out activities in and around Kirkuk in line with the discourses of Turkey’s ruling AKP government and supporting nationalist MHP party.
