Demirtaş: We are creating no obstacles; AKP is taking no steps

People’s Democratic Party (HDP) Co-president Selahattin Demirtaş has slammed the Turkish government for not taking the necessary steps within the resolution process.

People’s Democratic Party (HDP) Co-president Selahattin Demirtaş has slammed the Turkish government for not taking the necessary steps within the resolution process, and said the followings adressing to the government “You passed the security bill, and made the most critical move to sabotage the peace process. We have tried to prevent you from doing so. We will pursue our attitude as a matter of principle”.

Demirtaş also drew attention to the possibilities of provocations that could take place during the election campaign, and said “If something happens to us, I specially request it from my comrades that this ship anyhow reach the port”.

HDP Co-president held a meeting at the HQ of his party together with the co-chairs of the provincial branches of the party.

Speaking before the meeting, Demirtaş said they have started the election campaign in deed. Directing a strong criticism to the government, Demirtaş said that the government has failed to take the steps that would meet the expectations of the people from the very onset of the talks and added: “The government makes a fuss as if we were obstructing the peace process. Which steps did you take and we prevented you from doing so?”

HDP Co-president remarked that they tried to prevent the government from passing the internal security which -he said- was the most critical move of the government to sabotage the process, adding that they will pursue this attitude as a matter of principle.

Demirtaş also stressed that many provocations could take place during the election period, saying that if something happened to them, it would be a duty of the members of the party to carry on the work, adding that HDP is not a party of “one man”. Demirtaş told the members of the party not to bother themselves with the government’s attacks on him, saying that there is no one man in the party, but hundreds of thousands men and women that the government cannot eradicate.

HDP Co-president further criticised the granting by the parliament of discretionary fund to President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and said “Now the palace has a secret fund which it can use without giving any account. What will he do with this money, with all these billions? He now has the authority to intelligence and a special army, which has enabled him to establish a one-person state within the state.
