Demonstrations in Europe to support hunger strikers for Öcalan
Kurds in Europe and allies are holding demonstrations in cities throughout Europe this Saturday to support the hunger strikes.
Kurds in Europe and allies are holding demonstrations in cities throughout Europe this Saturday to support the hunger strikes.
The Congress of the Kurdish Democratic Society of Europe (KCDK-E) Co-presidential Council called for strong participation to the demonstrations to be held on January 5 in 7 countries and 19 cities.
KCDK-E issued a statement and said, “The hunger strikes started by Leyla Guven continue in Strasbourg, Hewler, prisons in Turkey and various other cities to break the isolation imposed upon Kurdish People’s Leader Abdullah Ocalan.”
KCDK-E said simultaneous demonstrations will be held in various countries on January 5 with the motto, “Hunger Strikers’ Demand Is Our Demand” and that they will be taking to the streets to “protest the dictator Erdogan and the fascist AKP-MHP alliance”.
The statement includes the following:
“The marches will condemn the invasion attempts against Kurdistan that happened in front of the whole world to see, the genocide and the massacres. We will be taking to the streets to protest the lack of concern from European states, the silence of the CPT and the Council of Europe, and to support the hunger strikes.
As the KCDK-E, we are calling on all our patriotic people, our allies, all revolutionaries and democrats, intellectuals, women, youth, all faith groups and peoples to actively participate in the marches to be held in the countries and cities listed below and to shout out loud that the hunger strikers’ demands are our demands.”
The KCDK-E said imprisoned HDP MP Leyla Guven’s unlimited nonalternating hunger strike will be on its 59th day on Saturday and added: “Let’s be on the streets on January 5 to be worthy of this dignified resistance and support it with mass awareness.”
KCDK-E also announced the planning for the demonstrations, according to which marches and rallies will be held in at least 7 countries and 19 cities between January 5 and 19.
