Demonstrations in France for the freedom of Öcalan

Kurdish youths took to the streets in several cities of France to demand freedom for Kurdish People's Leader Abdullah Öcalan.

As part of the 'Azad Bike' (Make Free) campaign launched by the Kurdish youth's movement Ciwanên Azad, Kurdish youths staged activities in several French cities to protest the Turkish state's practices of isolation and torture on Kurdish People's Leader Abdullah Öcalan in the prison island of Imrali.

STRASBOURG

 

Upon the initiative of Youths Council Erdal Welat, young Kurds gathered in front of the cathedral in French city of Strasbourg, and staged an activity of 45 minutes, drawing much attention of the many tourists there.

The Kurdish youths carried pictures of Kurdish People's Leader Abdullah Öcalan, and banners reading 'Free Öcalan', while they were distributing leaflets in English language among the many passers-by in the crowded place.

MARSEILLE

 

Hundreds of Kurds living in French city Marseille joined a march staged by the Kurdish youth's movement Ciwanên Azad within the scope of the 'Azad Bike' campaign, and marched from La Canebière Square towards Vieux Porte Square, chanting slogans "Long Live Leader Öcalan", "Freedom for Öcalan", and carrying placards reading in French "Stop Erdogan", "Resistance vis-a-vis Fascism", "Freedom for Öcalan", and "Öcalan is the guarantor for peace in the Middle East".

The mass gathered at Vieux Porte Square where following a minute of silence a statement was read out aloud in French, informing of the aggravated isolation on Kurdish People's Leader Abdullah Öcalan.

After speeches that were held on behalf of Ciwanên Azad and Kurdish Democratic Society Center (NCDK), the demonstration ended with the slogan "Long Live Leader Apo".

MONTPELLIER

Following the call of Kurdish Democratic Society Center (NCDK) in Montpellier, people from Kurdistan gathered at the Peyrou Pitot Park and marched together to the Place de la Comédie, the Comedy Square located in the city centre, to demonstrate for the freedom of Kurdish people's leader Abdullah Öcalan.

The mass chanted slogans such as "Long Live Leader Apo" and "Freedom for Öcalan" as they marched towards their destination. Speeches were held following a minute of silence, and leaflets informing on the isolation on the Kurdish leader were distributed among the people.

EVRY

Kurdish youths living in Paris' Evry suburb joined a march organised by the Kurdish youth's movement Ciwanên Azad, and marched from the train station Grigne towards the Democratic Kurdish Society Center (NCDK), chanting "Long Live Leader Apo" and "Freedom for Öcalan".

NCDK co-chair Lamîa Merdîn, and Azad Rizgar, co-spokesperson of Ciwanên Azad informed the public on the isolation of Öcalan, and vowed to continue the activities until the freedom of the Kurdish leader.

CANNES

Within the scope of the 'Azad Bike' campaign, Draguignan-Ciwanên Azad members staged an activity in front of the film festival building in Cannes, and attracted the attention of many interested passing tourists, with chants of slogans, also raising PKK flags and banners demanding freedom for the Kurdish leader.

During the activity, leaflets in French informing of the isolation imposed on the Kurdish leader were handed out to the passers-by, and statements were read out aloud demanding freedom for Öcalan.
