Dersim co-mayor Altun on hunger strike in Kocaeli prison

The hunger strike actions are aimed at ending the isolation imposed on Kurdish People's Leader Abdullah Öcalan.

Co-mayor of Dersim, Nurhayat Altun, has taken over the hunger strike started by Co-mayor of Amed, Gültan Kışanak, 10 days ago.

Both co-mayors were stripped of their charge and replaced by a State-appointed trustee.

Hundreds of political prisoners have been involved in hunger strike actions in solidarity with HDP Hakkari MP Leyla Güven, who has been on hunger strike for 51 days.

The hunger strike actions are aimed at ending the isolation imposed on Kurdish People's Leader Abdullah Öcalan.

In order to support Güven, Amed Metropolitan Municipality co-mayor Gültan Kışanak started a hunger strike in Kocaeli Kandıra No 1 F-Type High Security Prison on 18 December. The fast was meant to last 10 days before another prisoner took it over.

Kışanak was replaced by co-mayor of Dersim Municipality Nurhayat Altun, who is jailed in the same prison.

Altun will also fast for 10 days.
