Die Linke member: Isolation of a people's leader is unacceptable

Kornau stated that Öcalan is a leader accepted by a great majority of the Kurdish people and that he can direct a peace process as he achieves freedom.

Die Linke member Jann Kornau who went to Strasbourg from Bremen to support the hunger strike against isolation said Öcalan’s freedom is a must for peace and added that Die Linke should be able to support the Kurdish struggle more.

German Left Party - Die Linke Bremen member and candidate for local elections Oliver Jann Kornau said he salutes the struggle against the isolation imposed upon Kurdish People's Leader Abdullah Ocalan.

“THE KURDISH STRUGGLE GIVES HOPE”

Kornau said he wanted to travel from Bremen to Strasbourg to show sincere support for the Kurdish Freedom Movement and added: “This is an antifascist struggle organized at the anticapitalist level for equality, between men and women in particular.” Kornau stressed that the Kurds’ struggle gives hope in this sense and added that this is the reason he wanted to go to Strasbourg and show support to the hunger strikes.

“ÖCALAN MUST ACHIEVE FREEDOM AND DIRECT A PEACE PROCESS”

Die Linke member Oliver Jann Kornau said he believes in the peaceful solution of the Kurdish issue and continued: “This includes the freedom of all Kurds including those elected to office by the people. The imprisonment and isolation of a leader who built the peace process supported by the majority of the population is unacceptable.”

Kornau stressed that Öcalan should be given his human rights urgently and his conditions should be improved: “And in the long run he should have his freedom,” said Kornau and stated that Öcalan is a leader accepted by a great majority of the Kurdish people and that he can direct a peace process as he achieves freedom.”

“DIE LINKE COULD SPEND MORE EFFORT”

Kornau answered ANF’s question and pointed out that Die Linke is the only party to take a stand against the pressure against the Kurdish people, the occupation attacks in Rojava and various other issues and added that despite all efforts, what the party does is not enough.

Kornau pointed out that the Kurdish Freedom Movement should be supported to remain loyal to the right to self determination and added that what Öcalan and the Kurdish movement offer in terms of a solution to societal issues is even more important.

Kornau also pointed out that the pro-freedom ideology of the Kurdish Freedom Movement that is based on the equality of various constituents of societies should be supported and embraced.

Die Linke member Kornau added that the party should defend the Kurdish people and the struggle that represent them in a stronger manner.
