Diyarbakır Industrialists and Businessmen's Association (DİSİAD) has released a report on Yezidis forced to flee for their lives in the face of savage massacres and crimes against humanity committed by ISIS gangs that occupied the Yezidi town of Sinjar on 3 August.
According to the report which was jointly prepared by NGOs in the main Kurdish city, around 450 thousand Yezidis have been forced to leave their lands since the occupation, and some 100 thousand people are expected to be housed in North Kurdistan soon.
Reading the report at a press conference, DİSİAD President Burç Baysal recalled that the Yezidi people who have suffered 72 massacres in their history have once again been targeted and displaced after the occupation of their hometown by ISIS gangs.
Baysal continued giving the following information about the works they have performed for the displaced Yezidis; "On 9 August, we went to the Iraqi Kurdistan region together with a group of non-governmental organizations in Diyarbakır, and witnessed the tragedy at scene. We later shared our observations with the Minister of the Interior and the Minister of Health. Following an assessment of the general situation as the inflow of Yezidi refugees continued, we examined the refugee camps in South and North Kurdistan we visited on 9-10 September."
Remarking that the occupation of the Sinjar region led to the displacement of some 450,000 Yezidi people, Baysal said the majority of these people is now struggling to live under poor conditions in various parts of the South, West and North Kurdistan territories.
Baysal noted that there were still tens of thousands of Yezidi people on the migration path, and that most of these people reportedly wanted to leave the Iraqi territory.
Pointing out that over 100 thousand people might be accommodated in North Kurdistan soon, Baysal said it was vital to provide the educational, medical and psychological support to the Yezidi people in camps.
"In consideration of the approaching winter conditions; quick, planned and coordinated works should be performed and preparations should be completed as soon as possible", Baysal underlined and called on all aid organizations, AFAD and Kızılay being in the first place, aswell as prominent institutions and chambers of the business community to show sensitivity and active cooperation in order to overcome this tragedy.
DİSİAD President stressed that all works to be practiced for this purpose should aim to provide the necessary conditions ensuring that the Yezidi refugees are hosted well here and turn back to their lands once they are safe again.
Baysal also called on everyone to do their part and to mobilise for the displaced Yezidi people currently housed in North Kurdistan.
