Speaking at a press conference on Tuesday, Confederation of Progressive Trade Unions of Turkey (DISK) President Kani Beko said all unions and trade associations affiliated to the Confederation will take to the streets on International Workers Day on 1 May. Beko said they will be at Taksim Square on Workers Day under any conditions and circumstances.
Referring to the ongoing process for a democratic solution to the Kurdish question, Beko said “The Kurdish people who gathered in Newroz in Diyarbakır voiced their demand to live in peace with over 70 million people in Turkey. More than 50 thousand people of our country have lost their life in the last 30 years. What we are supposed to do now is to build a lasting peace in order to prevent the death of thousands more”.
