A number of people were taken into custody as a result of house raids in Sur district of the main Kurdish city Amed late Wednesday evening.

While as many as 50 people are reported detained, the reason for the operation is yet not clear.

Lawyers of the detainees were denied seeing their clients who are being held at anti-terror branch of Diyarbakır police headquarters.

It grabs attention that the operation was conducted few days before the Newroz, Kurdish New Year, on 21 March.
