Democratic Society Congress (DTK) and Party of Democratic Regions (DPB) have issued a statement on the occasion of the anniversary of the Halabja massacre perpetrated by Saddam regime in 1988, stressing that the Kurdish people must enhance their organisation in order to prevent further massacres.
DTK recalled in its statement that the colonialist-fascist regime in Iraq perpetrated a great massacre against the Kurdish people 27 years ago, saying that; “The massacre carried out by the regime of the fascist dictator Saddam against the Kurdish people in Halabja with chemical weapons on 16 March 1988, which left 5 thousand Kurds dead, went into the history of humanity as a black mark.
DTK pointed out that colonialist states were always supported by international imperialist powers in all the massacres they committed against the Kurdish people, remarking the unorganised and fragmented state of the Kurdish people in the past was the greatest factor that encouraged colonialist states to perpetrate these massacres.
Democratic Society Congress pointed out that only an organised society in unity and self-defence could prevent massacres and assure a safe future for peoples, as has been proved most concretely by the Kobanê resistance recently. “In this regard, Kobanê battle is a historic resistance full of great and teaching lessons for the Kurds and all the Middle East peoples”, it added.
The statement of the DBP also drew attention to the massacres perpetrated on the Kurdish people in Ağrı, Dersim, Halabja and various territories, stressing that the Kurdish people learned to fight and resist against assimilation policies in the face of all these massacres they suffered.
DBP underlined that the whole world called the perpetrators of all massacres to account but remained silent when it came to the killing of Kurds, noting that nor did the states calling themselves “libertarian and democrat” call the perpetrators of the Halabja massacre to account in its 27th year.
The DTK and DBP strongly condemned the massacre carried out by Saddam regime, commemorating all those who lost their lives and calling for national unity against the attacks targeting the Kurdish people.
