DTK: There will be no democratisation without exposing Roboski
The Democratic Society Congress (DTK) has issued a statement on the 2nd anniversary of the Roboski massacre, saying: “As long as Roboski and other massacres are not investigated, as long as this country continues to be governed by the constitution and laws of the junta, and as long as Kurdish politicians continue to be held captive and Kurds' identity and rights as equal citizens are not accepted, the parallel state will maintain its existence with all its murky practices and the crisis and chaos will continue and there will be no democratic solution."
In its statement the DTK emphasised that the massacre at Roboski has been covered up, and that new massacres have been perpetrated against the Kurds at Gever, Gezi and Lice. No one has been held to account for Roboski, despite 2 years having passed by, DTK underlined.
The statement emphasised the double standards of the AKP government, pointing out the way the government has reacted to accusations of bribery and corruption against the sons of ministers, contrasting it with the way the government has thanked and rewarded the police and soldiers who murdered Kurdish people's sons.
DTK pointed out that "it will not be possible to bring about peace, justice and democratisation with this mentality and discriminatory policies. The Prime Minister and AKP government with its autocratic policies has brought Turkey to the verge of a great crisis. It must realise that the only way out of this crisis is a democratic resolution of the Kurdish question."
The DTK stressed that finding and prosecuting the perpetrators of the Roboski massacre would be a significant step forward, adding that one of the most important demands of the Kurdish people is for the government to apologise for this and other massacres, and to take the necessary steps for the prosecution of those responsible.
The statement continued: "On the 2nd anniversary of the Roboski massacre, we remember those who died, and state that our democratic struggle and honourable resistance will continue until those responsible for this and other massacres are called to account."
DTK also called on everyone to attend the commemoration to be held in Roboski on 28 December.
