Eight gang militants killed in Rojava
Eight members of jihadist gang groups have been killed in clashes with YPG (People's Defense Units) fighters responding to the attacks of al-Qaeda affiliated al-Nusra front and ISIS (the Islamic State of Iraq and Sham) last night.
According to the reports received, clashes between YPG and armed gang groups broke out last night after ISIS and al Nusra launched attacks targeting some villages near the Kurdish city of Serêkaniyê. Many gang members have been wounded in clashes which are still continuing on Tal Halaf way.
Separate clashes broke out in the villages of Dirdara, Hemid and Çava on Dirbêsiyê and Haseke way after YPG responded to the attacks of the islamic groups.
In a statement released on 19 August, YPG Press Office said that 32 members of al-Qaeda affiliated groups have been killed in clashes in Serêkaniyê and Girkê Legê in the last two days.
Following an attack against the Kurdish villages in the region, YPG fighters expelled the armed groups from Serêkaniyê on 16 July. The attacks of the Islamic groups have been targeting the entire western Kurdistan region and other Kurdish populated regions ever since.
According to the statements by YPG, over 800 gang groups were killed between 16 July and 16 August. 80 fighters of the YPG have also lost their life in the last one month of severe clashes during which the jihadist groups have also kidnapped thousands of civilians. The whereabouts of some 700 Kurdish civilians still remains unknown.
