Emergency Committee for Rojava Study Group: The Struggle Against Patriarchy

ECR Study Group: The Struggle Against Patriarchy

The Emergency Committee for Rojava Study Group organized a group discussion on Sunday 6 November at 2pm EST.

This session will be focused on the Kurdish freedom movement’s practical and theoretical approach to struggling against patriarchy, as part of our series on Democratic Confederalism. Everyone is welcome to join the discussion via Zoom.

The series of meetings started with an introduction of the historical context and overview, and then moved to Abdullah Öcalan’s theories of history and democratic civilization. After reading about state and class-based societies and capitalist modernity, the participants explored Democratic Confederalism as a system of governance and the theory’s relationship with social ecology. The series will end with a discussion of women’s liberation and eco-feminism and how these concepts and practices relate to democratic confederalism.
