In a lengthy statement, which the newspaper GARA will publish tomorrow in its entirety, ETA celebrate the Gudari Eguna to pay homage to its dead militants and their families.
In addition, in the statemente ETA uses the concept of "national reconciliation", unusual so far.
The text addresses the issue of memory. Recognizes that many "not share our reading, something we accept and respect. We do not claim that the other political forces should share our point of view, but at the same time we can not accept that we have to deny our history of struggle and assume the account made by the oppressors."
Citing torture as one of the elements that delegitimize those who speak of "ethic ground" expressly criticize the performance of the PSOE, which has chosen - the guerrilla organization says - to distance itself from any peace initiative. ETA considers that the PSOE real motivations are different: "They want to keep the Basque Country prisoner of the ground built on state violence and the legal-political framework that denies freedom of expression and decision".
Moreover, ETA believes that following the strategy changes occurred in recent years in the independence movement, the process of liberation should be enhanced.
"We need a process as a people, that addresses all these attacks [ in the text some of the more aggressive actions of the states are mentioned ] and to free us once and for all from the chains binding us. This involves a process as a people to make our way to sovereignty and social justice", says ETA .
In ETA's view, a process " from Euskal Herria and looking to Euskal Herria" should be enhanced to put the basis of "democratic life", to advance "national reconciliation" , in order to heal wounds, and to address the consequences of conflict and emergency situations related to the armed conflict .
ETA is aware that the overall resolution of the conflict requires the cooperation of the states, and for this it says the parties committed and Basque citizens should make their voices heard in order that those steps are taken. It commit itself to act as a people in the defense of civil and political rights, for the return home of the prisoners and refugees, demanding demilitarization and, in general, for the word and decision of the Basque people to be respected.
