FARC Jesus Santrich taken to hospital

The FARC former commander is on hunger strike to protest against his illegal detention

Former FARC commander Seuxis Paucis Hernández Solarte, better known as Jesús Santrich, has just been translated to hospital. Santrich was jailed in La Picota prison in the Colombian capital Bogotá since 9 April. Santrich is on his 18th day on hunger strike.

He is protesting against his illegal detention which also dealt a huge blow to an already shaky peace process. The Colombian government in fact has implemented very little of the Final Peace Agreement it signed with the FARC guerrilla in Havana, on 24 November 2016.

The former FARC guerrillas (now a party by the same name, People's Alternative Revolutionary Force-FARC) have complied every part of the agreement referred to them, while the State has complied with very little.

The latest blow was the arrest of Santrich. According to the statement of the Attorney General, the arrest was in compliance with an international order issued through an Interpol red notice, for the purpose of extradition to the USA, for an alleged drug-related crime that allegedly occurred after the signing of the Peace Agreement.

In reality things are showing that Santrich had been framed. The former commander and executive member of the FARC party had already embarked on a hunger striike a few months ago to highlight the State non compliance with the Agreement in what referred to the freedom of the political prisoners who benefited from the Amnesty Law.
