The funeral ceremony for 21-year-old Hasan Ferit Gedik, shot to death on Monday in Gülsuyu in Maltepe district, took place on Tuesday amid tension.

Gedik had died when drug dealers operating in the area opened fire on a big group of protesters. The protest was organized by left groups and people who took to the streets against the drug dealers activity.

People wanted to hold a ceremony for Gedik at the scene of his murder, but police refused permission. Police on Monday heavily attacked the people protesting against the drug dealers. Indeed protesters accused police of doing little to crack down on drug dealers in the neighborhood.

Police did not permit anyone to enter Gülsuyu neighborhood so in the end the funeral ceremony for Gedik took place at Gülsuyu Square.
