People in North Kurdistan have brought life to a standstill to protest against the 9 October conspiracy which led Kurdish leader Abdullah Öcalan being forced to leave Syria in 1998.
Life came to a standstill in the main Kurdish city Diyarbakır where almost all shopkeepers have taken down the shutters in many districts including Sur, Bağlar and Yenişehir. Shops also remain closed on many main streets including Göçmenler, Sento, Kuruçeşme, Barış and Lefkoşa. The city has already been surrounded by armored police vehicles and special operation police teams.
BDP (Peace and Democracy Party) Amed organization will stage a march to protest the 9 October conspiracy in the afternoon. The march from Dörtyol to Koşuyolu Park is expected to be joined by thousands.
Shops remain closed and schools boycotted in the districts of Bismil, Silvan and Lice as well.
People in Şırnak's Silopi and Cizre districts are also joining the mass protest today.
On Tuesday evening, police attacked hundreds of activists of the Movement of Patriot and Revolutionary Youth (YDG-H) who closed the main Cizre streets to traffic and made a fire on many spots. Clashes lasted till midnight.
People in Urfa's Suruç district, Mardin's Derik and Nusaybin districts, Hakkari, Çukurca, Yüksekova, Şemdinli, Varto, Malazgirt, Adana, Seyhan and Yüreğir have also brought the life to a standstill to protest against the international conspiracy against Kurdish people's leader.
