The sit-in in front of the European Committee for the Prevention of Torture and the Council of Europe in Strasbourg is proceeding with hundreds of people on its second day.
During the open-air conference after noon, Dr. Serko Heme Emin from Southern Kurdistan’s Gorran (Change) Movement held a speech.
Calling for an end of the imprisonment of HDP parliamentarians and majors, Emin stated that resolution of the Kurdish question can never be brought about through violence.
Regarding Kurdish People's Leader Abdullah Öcalan, Emin recalled the duty and responsibility that the European Committee for the Prevention of Torture (CPT) has in this regard. Underlining that the Kurds’ sit-in is a civil and peaceful protest, the Gorran parliamentarian stressed that they will provide any help they can.
THE SITUATION IN SOUTHERN KURDISTAN
Referring to the Southern Kurdistan’s Independence Referendum and the following occupation by the Iraqi forces, Dr. Emin recalled that many people were displaced in the environment of conflict and violence.
Also recalling the genocide in Shengal, the Gorran MP stated that the genocide is being dealt with at the International Court of Justice in the Netherlands and that the case will be intensively observed.
Renewing his call for peaceful, civil and democratic struggle, Dr. Emin added that they call for the freedom of Kurdish People's Leader Abdullah Öcalan and all political prisoners in Turkey.
Answering the questions of participants of the sit-in later on, the Gorran member stated that all neighboring states and their affiliated forces need to withdraw from the region in the end. The Southern Kurdish parliamentarian stated that the occupation of Kirkuk was enabled by the collaboration of KDP, PUK and the Iraqi Government.
