Guven on hunger strike for 86 days: Resistance is life

Leyla Guven, who has been on a hunger strike for 86 days, said: “The state has made two moves, but we have voided both. Let’s fortify our protest. Soon our protest will end in success. Berxwedan jiyan e!”

The vigil started by HDP MPs to protest the Imrali isolation and to support the hunger strikes led by HDP MP Leyla Guven is on day 2.

HDP MPs Musa Farisogullari, Dersim Dag, Semra Guzel, Ridvan Turan and Tulay Hatimogullari handed over the vigil to Amed MP Saliha Aydeniz and Mus MP Mensur Isik today.

A banner that read “Emê tecridi bişkinin faşizmi helweşinin” and photographs of Leyla Guven, Imam Sis (on a hunger strike in Newport, Wales for 47 days) and Nasir Yagiz (on a hunger strike in Hewler for 47 days) were put up in the hall where the MPs receive visitors. The first group of visitors of the day were artists, members of the Democratic Islam Congress (DIK) and prisoners’ families.

GUVEN: CONTINUE TO RESIST!

Guven saluted the visitors through the video conference system set up in her home and said: “We knew we weren’t alone when we were in prison. We knew our demands would be embraced. We resisted with great enthusiasm in prison, and we continue to do so. There truly is freedom and life behind the walls. We are so in the right, that our resistance keeps growing like a snowball every day. Some of us may fall on this path, but what matters is our purpose. Very soon our protest will end in success.”

“LET’S FORTIFY OUR PROTEST”

Guven said the state allowed Ocalan to meet with his brother on January 12 and that she has been released from prison: “The state has made two moves, but we have voided both.” Guven added: “I know millions of people have their hearts beating next to mine. So I don’t feel alone. My friends are all around me, we continue our protest with great spirituality. Let’s fortify our protest, let’s go to our people. Let’s take 100% of the municipalities in these elections. Let’s void their moves. Berxwedan jiyan e! [Life is resistance].”
