HDP Co-chairs call on the judiciary to release Demirtaş

HDP Co-chairs Pervin Buldan and Sezai Temelli protested the rejection of Selahattin Demirtaş’s appeal to be released and said they will not accept the decision.

Peoples’ Democratic Party (Halkaların Demokratik Partisi - HDP) Co-chairs Pervin Buldan and Sezai Temelli held a press conference before the candidate promotion meeting and protested the rejection of Presidential Candidate Selahattin Demirtaş’s appeal to be released.

BULDAN: “WE WILL NOT ACCEPT THIS, WE WILL APPEAL”

Buldan said: “We would like to state clearly that we in no way, shape or form recognize this decision. Demirtaş must be immediately released to campaign for the elections under equal conditions like all the other presidential candidates.”

Buldan said they will appeal the court’s decision today: “If the same verdict comes out, our legal battle will continue. We will follow this case into the Constitutional Court and the ECHR.”

TEMELLI: “EVERYTHING WILL CHANGE, BE BRAVE”

Temelli said the court’s excuse is “a freak of justice” and continued: “Until this hold over the judiciary is broken, it is not possible for this country to have justice. Our expectation from the higher court is to rectify this verdict and release Demirtaş.”

Temelli called on judges: “After June 24, everything in this country will change. Come join this change, and participate in the independence of the judiciary. Don’t issue verdicts that go against the law and come from certain places. Come, be brave.”
