HDP (Peoples’ Democratic Party) Central Executive Committee issued a written statement and wrote that Tahir Elçi, former President of the Diyarbakır Bar Association who had followed the burned villages, unidentified murders and extrajudicial killings in the 1990’s, had been murdered by the Four Pillared Minaret on November 28, 2015.
HDP stated that there has been no development in the investigation and added: “The approach from the government and the state towards the Tahir Elçi murder is exactly the same as the officials from the ‘90s approached the unidentified murders. The names, the ministers, the governments change but the approach and the frivolity in these cases stay the same.”
The statement said: “The warmongers who try to push the society into darkness and silence and the dark faces and dirty hands of the state and government won’t smother the hope and search for peace, in the person of Tahir Elçi. We will never forget those who lynched Tahir Elçi, those who made the lynch possible, those who instigated this political murder, those who committed it and those who supported them. Solving the Tahir Elçi murder is also imperative to break the tradition of impunity that has become the norm in Turkey. We stress once more that we won’t allow this murder to remain unsolved and we will monitor this case. We respectfully remember esteemed Tahir Elçi on the second anniversary of his murder.”
