HPG: 45 JÖH members killed in Ağrı

Guerrillas hit and inflicted heavy blows on the Turkish army in northern Kurdistan.

HPG Press Centre released a statement reporting an expansive action against the Turkish army in northern Kurdistan, which left 45 members of JÖH (Gendarmerie Special Operations) dead.

The statement by HPG said the following;

“On May 20, at 07.30, within the scope of the Revolutionary Victory Campaign, our forces carried out a comprehensive action against the occupying Turkish army in the Gürbulak town of Ağrı’s Bazid (Doğubeyazıt) district.

A bus carrying JÖH (Gendarmerie Special Operations) members who were put under surveillance for a long time as a result of special intelligence were targeted by our forces. The enemy’s bus which was effectively targeted has been completely destroyed. 45 JÖH members were identified killed in this action.

Following the action, the occupying Turkish army tried to intervene in the action area with armoured vehicles. Our forces have also put these armoured vehicles under intense fire and these vehicles were forced to withdraw from the scene. Our forces have also targeted two attack-type helicopters which arrived at the action scene for intervention. One helicopter has been effectively hit here and these helicopters were also forced to withdraw. The occupying Turkish army, from the afternoon hours to 16.00 has bombed the area with howitzer and mortar shells, carrying away dead and wounded soldiers from the area with many Skorsky helicopters and ambulances. The debris of the destroyed bus was carried away from the area with lifting cranes.

The invading Turkish army has imposed a curfew in the Glidağ area following the heavy blow inflicted by our forces and has detained many locals.

Within the scope of the Martyr Pîroz and Martyr Agirî Revolutionary Campaign, on May 20 at 18.30, our forces carried out an action against the invading forces positioned on the Koordine hill in Hakkari’s Çelê (Çukurca) district. Three positions were destroyed in the enemy positions hit effectively. Two enemy soldiers were identified killed in this action.

Within the scope of the revolutionary campaign, on the same day, at 15.10, our forces carried out an action against the enemy soldiers positioned on the Lêlîkan hill within the territory of Southern Kurdistan. One enemy soldier has been killed inside the enemies hit effectively.

On May 21, at 07.05, within the scope of the revolutionary campaign, our forces carried out a sabotage action against enemy soldiers conducting road control between the Heftkani hill in Hakkari’s Şemzînan (Şemdinli) district and the Tisê outpost. One enemy soldier has been killed in this action.

On May 17, the occupying Turkish army launched an operation with the support of the contras in the Şapırnaz area of Amed's Pasur (Kulp) district. The operation, which was conducted with a large number of armoured vehicles, was partially withdrawn on May 19.”
