Hunger strike in Strasbourg reached day 19

The hunger strike action launched in Strasbourg, France, demanding an end to the isolation imposed on Abdullah Öcalan, is supported by many politicians, representatives, journalists and people.

The indefinite hunger strike against the absolute isolation imposed on Kurdish People's Leader Abdullah Öcalan, who was last visited by his brother Mehmet Öcalan in September 2016, continues in Strasbourg for the 19th day.

The 15 hunger strike activists are receiving visitors from different countries every day.

This Friday, the hunger strikers were visited by former MP from Muş and HDK-Europe executive, Demir Çelik.

Demir Çelik spoke at the action and drew attention to the heavy isolation imposed on Öcalan.

Çelik said that the captivity of Öcalan also meant the captivity of Kurds and other peoples. He emphasized that those engaged in war want to destroy the freedom of the oppressed peoples on the one hand and the democratic autonomy project on the other.

The Kurdish politician also added that the people will step up their resistance against fascism and the dictatorship of Erdogan.

Visitors from Bodensee

Among those who visited the action were dozens of Kurds from the cities around Lake Bodensee in south Germany.

Speaking on behalf of the members of the People's Assembly of Bodensee, Ahmed Baytar stressed that 20 years of Öcalan's captivity cannot be accepted.

Baytar said that the people were protesting everywhere and resisted the persecution and games played on the Kurdish people.

Baytar called on all Kurds and friends in Europe to join the actions and protests to demand the end of the isolation imposed on Kurdish People’s Leader Öcalan. He reminded the many on hunger strike in prison and confirmed that they would start a tent action in the Bodensee region on Saturday.
