IHD to stage sit-in for severely ill prisoners
All branches of the Human Rights Association (IHD) are to stage sit-in on Sunday to highlight the situation of prisoners who are gravely ill and facing the risk of death in jail. The protests will go on for 163 minutes, representing the 163 inmates whose condition is particularly severe.
The sit-in and reading of press statements will take place simultaneously at 30 branches and 10 representative offices of the IHD, which is organising the protest in Human Rights Week, under the slogan "Release all sick prisoners immediately".
In Ankara the protest is organised jointly by TUHAD-FED and the Ankara branch of the IHD, a 163 minute sit-in which will be supported by political parties and civil society organisations.
In a statement about tomorrow's protest on Yüksel Avenue, the Ankara representative of TUHAD-FED, Hava Özcan, said that “There is increasing persecution, oppression and arbitrary practices in prisons. We will protest to demand an end to the obstruction of treatment of sick prisoners and for their immediate release. We expect support from all sections of society for this humanitarian issue."
