The ongoing aggravated isolation imposed upon Kurdish People's Leader Abdullah Ocalan has been brought to the attention of the German Federal Parliament’s agenda. Die Linke MP Brandt asked the Merkel government: “Will you make the CPT take action?”
The silence of European states and the Merkel led federal government in the face of the aggravated isolation imposed upon Kurdish People's Leader Abdullah Ocalan stands out as the German Left Party, Die Linke, took the matter to the German government's agenda to uncover the government's stand regarding Imrali.
Die Linke MP Michel Brandt asked the federal government about the isolation in Imrali, and whether the Committee for the Prevention of Torture (CPT) under the Council of Europe will visit Ocalan or the DTK Co-chair Leyla Guven who has been on a hunger strike since November 7, 2018.
According to information ANF obtained from sources close to Die Linke, the questions federal government human rights commission member Brandt asked are as follows:
“Does the federal government have any information in the health conditions of Abdullah Ocalan, held in the Imrali Island Prison?
Will the federal government make the CPT take any action to visit Ocalan or MP Leyla Guven on a hunger strike?”
Die Linke MP Brandt’s questions are expected to be answered in the Wednesday session of the federal Parliament by an official from the federal government, probably the Ministry of Foreign Affairs or the Ministry of Justice.
