Kalkan: Action against Syria would turn into Middle East war
Speaking to Sterk TV Friday evening, KCK (Kurdish Communities Union) Executive Council member Duran Kalkan commented on a potential international military action against Syria.
Kalkan said an external military action in Syria would lead to a great bloody conflict in the 3rd world war that is said to be taking place since 1989-90. Kalkan remarked that such a war would not remain limited with Syria alone but turn into a regional war and engulf the whole Middle East region.
“This ideological and political war has already been taking place for over 20 years now, with its military side remaining in the background. This reality is said to be a feature of the 3rd world war. However, a foreign intervention in Syria would turn into a new military Middle East war, just like what happened in the 1st World War. This is what will happen no matter in which way the intervention takes place, whether upon a consensus by U.S., Europe, China and Russia or upon a disagreement between Russia-China and U.S.-Europe-NATO” Kalkan underlined and remarked that the ideological and political conflict would then change into a war with a military aspect. He noted that this war would cross Syrian borders and engulf Iraq, Turkey and all Kurdistan as well. As Iran and Arabs are already taking part in the war, it would become a regional war across the Middle East, he added.
KCK executive warned that such a military action would lead to a disaster and turn the region into bloodbath, underlining that all sides must avoid making such a move.
Kalkan said that the people and democracy powers in the Middle East, as well as Kurdish people, objected to this war.
Reminding that Kurds defended the third alternative, democracy-freedom-unity of peoples- in Rojava and Syria, Kalkan continued saying the followings; “This is the line Kurds in Rojava have followed so far, siding with neither foreign intervention nor internal conflict. They didn't take sides with the parties involved in the war for the last two years, they supported neither the Ba'ath regime that defends nation-statist status quo nor the religious and other opposition groups serving the global system”.
KCK Executive pointed out that in the event of a war imposed on the Middle East through Syria, Kurds in Rojava would also follow the same line, by acting together with other peoples and democracy powers and insisting on a democratic revolution for the unity of peoples in the Middle East. “This is the ideological political line of Leader Apo's (Abdullah Öcalan) theory and the Kurdish movement is organized on the basis of this idea. This is why they will insist on resistance for the achievement of freedom, democracy and brotherhood against the imperialist war”, he added.
