As part of the international campaign for the freedom of Abdullah Öcalan and a political solution to the Kurdish question, Revolutionary Youth Movement (TCŞ), the Movement of Militant Young Women (TEKO-JIN) and internationalist youth movements will organize marches in 13 cities in Europe and Canada on 11 and 12 November to demand the physical freedom of Kurdish People's Leader Abdullah Öcalan. The organisations call on all young people to stand up for women's liberation and a democratic and ecological life.
The Democratic Kurdistan Society Congress in Europe (KCDK-E) released a statement calling for strong participation in the demonstrations at the weekend.
"In all social developments and major struggles, the transformative effect of youth and their power to move forward are well known. In the century we live in, however, youth is confronted with being corrupted by capitalist modernity by all possible means and methods. The system continues to keep them under its influence for its economic and political ambitions," said the statement released by the KCDK-E on Thursday.
The statement continued: "All means and tools are used to this end. Religious fanaticism, nationalism and sexism are inculcated in young people as the poison of the capitalist system. Intensive pressure is exerted via the virtual media in particular. We know that capitalism has no formula for life for young people. The paradigm developed by Leader Apo [Abdullah Öcalan] with its liberating ideas is an alternative that can offer young people orientation and be an enlightening light against the dark spirit of the capitalist system. For this reason, young people from different nations from all over the world met in Paris for three days, reorganised themselves and took a stand."
KCDK-E remarked that: “The World Youth Conference in Paris gave the campaign for the freedom of Abdullah Öcalan and a political solution to the Kurdish question a new energy and a new spirit. Hundreds of young people, who came together with the goal of a free world, declared their determination to fight together for their liberation. This is a message that the content of the campaign will reach millions of people through the young generations.”
Remarking that the demonstrations to be staged at the weekend represent the transition of the Kurdish and internationalist youth movement from debate to action, the KCDK-E added: "We welcome this process of activism, which represents a new youth revolution, and call on everyone to actively participate in the demonstrations on 11 and 12 November."
