Kışanak: Democratisation Package Empty
Speaking at the “Fıstık ve Doğa İle Buluşma” festival in Siirt on Saturday, Selim Sadak, mayor of Siirt, said that everyone in the country should be provided with the right to use their mother language freely in all areas of life. Sadak remarked that the government should initiate legal arrangements to enable this.
Speaking after, BDP (Peace and Democracy Party) co-chair Gültan Kışanak reminded that the ruling AKP government has failed to do its part in the ongoing process in search of a peaceful and democratic solution to the Kurdish question, not giving the required answer to Kurdish people's leader Abdullah Öcalan's determination to ensure the liberation of all peoples in the country.
Kışanak remarked that the government has followed a delaying policy and missed all the opportunities for the resolution of the Kurdish issue since it came to power 11 years ago.
Referring to the so-called “democratisation package” PM Recep Tayyip Erdoğan will announce on 30 September, Kışanak said that the the reason for the government's delaying the announcement of the package for four months indicated the fact that the package would offer nothing new to come up with a solution to the main problems in Turkey.
Pointing out that the government has also failed to give an answer to Kurdish leader Öcalan's recent proposal for the continuation of the process, Kışanak added that “This is the last chance Mr. Öcalan has given to the government. He said he would leave the government to the Kurdish people should it fail to do its part for the advancement of the democratic resolution process. The Kurdish people are ready to answer the government and they will be doing their part for the satisfaction of their demands for their fundamental rights”.
