Kongra Gel has issued a statement regarding this year’s Newroz saying it has to be the Newroz for the freedom of the Kurdish Leader, Abdullah Öcalan, and called for mass participation.

Drawing attention to the letter of Öcalan to be read out at Newroz celebrations in Amed tomorrow, Kongra Gel said that: “Leader Apo will announce a crucial move for our peoples for the solution of the problems of democracy and freedom.”

Kongra Gel commemorated in its statement those martyrs, Mazlum, Rahşan, Zekiye, Berivan, Ronahi and Sema who sacrificed themselves at Newroz in the past and vowed to continue their struggle. It added that this year’s Newroz is being celebrated massively and with great enthusiasm thanks to the way opened and the freedom struggle waged by those martyrs and the Kurdish Leader Öcalan.

The statement stressed that the humanitarian struggle led by the Kurdish People’s Leader Öcalan had reached the stage of gaining legal and constitutional status in North Kurdistan after the achievements in Rojava and added: “Leader Apo will make a crucial move for the resolution of the problems of democracy and freedom in Turkey and North Kurdistan with the road map that he will make public at Newroz in Amed”. Kongra Gel said the message of Öcalan will open the way for democracy forces before the elections and push the AKP government to take steps through the struggles that are to be waged in this direction”.

The statement stressed that an arduous struggle for democracy and freedom will be started by the Newroz message of Öcalan, and called for even more massive participation than usual in Newroz celebrations.

Kongra Gel also drew attention to the need for Öcalan to be free and said Leader Apo must meet the people in a free environment. “We are very close to a free life with the rising Newroz fire. We have to make 2015 Newroz the Newroz for the freedom of Leader Apo through the democracy and freedom struggle that we will conduct to build a free society and a free life”, said Kongra-Gel, ending its statement by celebrating the Newroz of all the peoples.
