KONGRA-GEL: Roboski will continue to be Erdoğan’s nightmare

The KONGRA-GEL executive council has issued a statement to mark the second anniversary of the Roboski massacre in which 34 civilians, mostly children, were killed by Turkish warplanes on 28 December 2011.

KONGRA-GEL remarked that Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan is the person responsible for the Roboski massacre, and that is why he cannot admit it, and therefore it will continue to be his nightmare.

The statement continued, noting that two years have passed since the attack, adding: "For two whole years the AKP government has ignored the cries of the people of Roboski, but the murderers cannot escape."

"Of course, when PM Recep Tayyip Erdoğan hears the word Roboski, he panics, as he is the person responsible for the massacre", the KONGRA-GEL statement said, and emphasised that historically Kurdish massacres have always been covered up, with no one being called to account, adding: "but that time is over. The Kurdish people are no longer powerless. The Kurdish people are now rewriting history and will hold those responsible for these massacres, first and foremost that of Roboski, to account. People have now seen the reality that is the AKP and Erdoğan, and their suport is eroding by the day. Therefore the real intention of the Roboski massacre was to intimidate the Kurdish people. The social and national solidarity organised by our people has alleviated the pain of the families. Erdoğan has no chance of escaping the flame ignited by Roboski in people's conscience."

KONGRA-GEL pointed out that the mentality that perpetrated the Roboski massacre is the same mentality that perpetrated the Sheikh Said, Gelîyê Zîlan, Dersim, Sason, 33 bullets, Sivas, Maraş and other massacres. The statement continued, emphasising that this mentality would either change and the state would confront its own genocidal reality and take a step towards peace and a solution, or, like previous governments, the AKP would be obliterated from the political stage. The statement added that Erdoğan should be in no doubt about this.

The statement concluded by calling on all Kurdish people on the second anniversary of the Roboski massacre to protest at the fascism of the AKP state wherever they are, and to intensify the spirit of resistance.

"We also take this opportunity to share the pain of the families of the martyrs and to salute their honourable resistance", it added.
